Time Capsule day

I'm home during the day with my kids. I thought just for my own "fun" I would log a day in the life of a stay at home dad (who works evenings) on a day where we have absolutely no plans:

7:45 am: Jenna (the one year old wakes up)
7:50 am: first diaper change
8:05 am: Alexa (the four year old) comes into my room to ask for milk.
8:15 am:Bottle for Jenna/Coffee for me
9:00 am: Breakfast for Alexa and I: pancakes:

9:52 am: Jenna fusses (is that a word?) Oatmeal and pears await. yes thats My hairy arm
10:04 am : reheat cold coffee.
10:24 am: decide it might be time to start an offshoot blog that ONLY focuses on soccer.
then remember to set DVR's for Champions League matches this afternoon. They start earlier since Europe has already go to daylight savings time. a factoid for the day.
10:35 am: Kitchen cleaning/laundry detail commences.
10:37 am: remember tomorrow is trash pickup. Add to "to do" list.
11:00 am: bottle and nap for Jenna.
11:56 am: to list completed (for now) .
noon: lunch for myself and Jenna (make note to myself to add 'my closet' to my do list for
wed)
1:30pm: finally....soccer time for me.

Time for a day of R and R

..so after running saturday, playing soccer yesterday, I needed to fix my workout schedule to have saturdays off. To do this I needed to run today. Just a quick 30 minutes, which in week 2 of my program eases back a bit. Still I feel my 43 year old body starting to bog down.

Since last saturday (9 days ago)...I ran sat, sun, tuesday, thursday, saturday and today.

yikes...

I don't feel awful, but I did something similar last summer in the hot weather. I remember trying to work out after i had played indoor soccer the night before and in the middle of my
run i started to feel ill, like someone pulled my plug.

Easy keith...easy.

Feast or famine/Be careful what you wish for?

Remember when i was getting pissed that couldn't find a over 35 soccer team. Well we had our first scrimmage today, after I ran yesterday.

SO if you're coming along in the middle here....I'm training to run a 1/2 marathon (which has been changed to Hartford) It mean less travel and another month to train.

I also made the move to Sirius from XM. Wasn't unhappy but thought Xm was a bit bland and think Sirius has more personality to it.....

good day for Manchester United....3-0 over pathetic Birmingham.....game on wednesday at Old Trafford against West Ham. I get the feeling Ruud will play on Wednesday.

Back to running for a second....I will now train on Mon,Wed and Friday and have soccer on sunday.....and try to do some light strength training on some off days.....

Gives new meaning to the term SERVICE

as Bill Murray said.....

Well....it happened....I found a over 35 soccer team to play for. So NOW my spring is going to consist of playing and training again for soccer which i really enjoyed last summer AND track back a few posts to the mental carrot post and I've been training to run a 1/2 marathon in Philly this fall. As Bill Murray said in "caddyshack"..."I guess the kidding around is pretty much over, I guess we're playing for keeps now.........."

pardon me while i get my dictionary to look up mid-life crisis....

In NO particular order:

1. On first day of spring where the temp only hit 32...I'm ready for some warm days.
2. Manchester United are playing their best football (soccer) of the season. I'd love to have August and September back.
3. The jury is still OUT on the season of the "Sorpranos."

memo to anyone involved in reality tv:

PLEASE stop using the word JOURNEY!

Mental carrot

Wondering to myself if I could be motivated to try this. I think i'm using playing soccer too much of a crutch to start training again. Oddly, it gives me exactly six months.

Stick your co-pay

My wife took Alexa to the new "quick sick" clinic this morning to which they told her "yes she has a virus" and they wouldnt give her anti biotics because it will run its course. So i guess she is suppossed to drink a gallon of Childrens Motrin unitl it passes. What a fucking waste of $15. I REALLY HATE modern medicine.

-------------------------------------

Went to B/N to pick up a book on birds. My grandfather used to have a similar book when i was kid, and I was alaways fascinated by the maps in the book. We have a bird-feeder just outside of the kitchen and this memory came streaming back to me. It also reminded me that my grandparents who lived on the Cape always had an organ that NOBODY every played. seriously.....I remember my brother and sister banging the keys....but it sat for years and it had one of those seats that had storage in it...where it was just filled with clutter. I wonder what happened to it?

----------------------------------------

We also made our weekly trip to "Target"....which i believe I have been to twice in three days.
Today it was:
-milk
-sore throat strips for moi
-diet pepsi for da wife
-diet cherry coke for me
-Barbie "Mermaidia" for the aforementioned sick 4 year old.

and the M.A.S.H. unit is open again

Birthday weekend is over. I "ran" some on saturday at the park. Most of humanity was at the track with temps near 60. We had a party for me sat night with the in-laws and my friends steve and jim and his wife and son all showed. It didnt enhance my call to eat better.....but it WAS my birthday.

Sunday I watched United hammer Newcastle and play some of their best soccer of the season....its too bad we're so far behind Chelsea but second and that C/L spot are looking good.
Last night Alexa started with the wet cough, similar to the one Rachel had and ended up with a fever of 103 so no school for her today. What a shitty three months this has been since my mom
got sick New years eve. Ear Infections, stomach flu, chest colds, bronchitis and I'm dragging this morning.....so off we go with the childrens motrin and tylenol.....

11pm update: Alexa has to go to the doc's tommorrow..her fever keeps going back up and I guess it spiked some tonight. Fevers make me nervous.

Birthday eve

I think this pretty much sums up how i feel my fitness program is going. The weather is warming up and time for me to get my shit together. Last night at work I had pizza,
cheese sticks, chips. it's not good. Maybe I can use my birthday as a benchmark. And I'm starting to realize that maybe my best bet for strength training is getting up about 45 minutes before my kids....which of course is a crapshoot.

Random tuesday

It's been good to get back into the flow of work. The last two weeks have absolutely killed my mojo to work out. Perhaps the warm-up this weekend will help. I've emailed three teams
to play soccer this spring and so far havent' heard a thing. I did get in touch with the guy who managed my team last year (he's no longer playing) to start playing tennis. I used to be a tennis freak in the 80s and always wanted to be Bjorn Borg.

----------------------------

So far the new car is running well but man, when the tank hits 1/4 it goes quick to EMPTY. I can barely go 300 miles because the tank is small and the mileage is
acceptable so far.

-------------------------------

We've been in our new house three months and I looked around today and some rooms
still look like we just moved in. And I'm amazed at the trash we generate on a weekly basis.
T-minus 4 days til my 43rd birthday...

Quick update from radioland

It's 10:12 and I have just under two hours til the end of my show and my voice is almost totoally SHOT! I feel like Mrs. Brady in that Christmas episode of the "Brady Bunch" where she can't sing on Christmas day because she loses her voice only to be saved by the mall santa and Cindy's christmas wish....ya know THIS episode.

When KITCHENS attack!!!!!

Here's what happens when two adults get sick for almost a week.....before and after:

My own blogging 101

I went back recently and re-read my posts after six weeks of my first blog. It's interesting to see what you reveal over the course of time. The most I opened up in my blog was in my "100 things about me" post. I've come to the conclusion that I'm not ready yet to just "throw it all out there". I'm my own worst critic and noticed that some of my observations are whiny (shut up keith...) and some are just plain pointless. But I did mention one of my goals was to write for a newspaper or magazine and this was a test to see if i could write or "keep a journal" over a long period of time. In the regard I'm doing better than i thought. I can't tell you how many discarded wire notebooks are in a box with one or two writings. Usually they begin on January1st (you know the drill).
Hopefully I'll be able to get a little more under the surface with me. Its been a bit of a rough week with everyone in the house getting nailed with stomach flu. And thanks to all the yick (a medical term) I was kicking up in my gut, Its done a number on my voice. I'm about 3 octaves lower when it works....so its a new month, a month I love AND hate. My birthday and my moms birthdays are in march. Its a month that NEVER seems to end. 31 days with NO holidays and no I dont include St. Patricks day as such (altho it is my moms birthday). But its also month that brings an end to winter (at least on the calender..Boston is home to a major April fools day blizzard in 1997) and Spring training games begin.
..also wish me well...I still haven't found an "over 35" soccer team to play for this spring and i'm getting nervous...the season usually starts early to mid-april.
